Red Currant

The least expecpected thing to see in the middle of the city - a bush of red currant with handful of ripe berries on it! Believe it or not, I took this picture in the very heart of Moscow.

A horrible thing happened to me today - I ... forgot my password to this account! I had crazy half an hour before I memorized it correctly.

Anyway, the photo, as usual, has nothing to do with it. It's the same leaves and same drops of rain as yesterday, but a larger view.

Sunday, 29 July 2007

When the rain is over, a thousand brilliants sparkle on every leaf and petal.

Saturday, 28 July 2007

The world looks a bit different when see it through falling drops of rains on the windshield. It's raining in Moscow again. Like in that song, "it's surprising this town doesn't sink.."

Rainy night

It's been raining since Tuesday here. The air is damp and chilly, the soil is soggy and doesn't accept water any more. Wet grass smells of leaving summer and the world is filled with murmur of the rain. What a sad kind of weather!

Another good thing about old Moscow blocks is small churches lost among the apartment buildings and mighty trees. Shame on me but I don't know the name of this one presented in the photo. That doesn't make it less beautiful, though.

Novokuznetskaya St.

This photo was also taken in the very center of Moscow, a few steps aside from wide streets full of life.

Raspberry-tea

Do you like fresh, ripe, juicy raspberry? What's about making tea of it?
Not many words today but a lot of colour and scent.

First yellows

The calendar states it's the middle of the summer but nature disagrees, and fisrt signs of yellow show up in trees. It smells like September, and the air is cool and sharp. The summer in this city is way too short...

Time-mix

Believe me or not, but this photo was taken in the very center of the city! That's waht I like about Moscow downtown: you step aside from busy modern avenue and find yourself in a quiet block where streets are narrow and curved, bulidings are few-stored and unique, and everything is as it was 10, 20, 30 years ago.

Another example of 'blast from the past' on my extension site.

Zorbing, close-up

Here is another photo of zorbing practice, and today I present a closer view so you could see a person inside the ball. Does it make you feel claustrophobic? I feel so a little bit. The ball is huge and clear, though, so you could observe the 'outside world' while rolling down.

I sincerely apologise to everyone for not commenting for long but I was extremely busy with work lately. I hope things will improve soon.

Zorbing

There is a new fashion in Moscow called ZORBING. I'm sure most of you are aware of such a thing, but in Moscow it's relatively fresh one. I saw those huge balls rolling down the hill and ran through a mix of feelings: curiosity, fear, excitement, dizziness and a lot of other words. I doubt, though, that I would enjoy such an activity as zorbing but it was an interesting experience to watch all those brave people.

Moscow river

This is just a bend on Moscow river shot in the evening sunlight. It doesn't look very warm, does it?

Boats competition

I had some troubles with my office computer today and spent half a day fixing the problem. Had I not been a computer person, though, it would have taken much longer or I would have lost all my data. Anyway, with a little help of my colleagues I've got a working machine after all and can even post a photo.
The photo, by the way, has nothing to do with my story but shows one of the boats competition which are help on Moscow river during summertime.

A souvenir seller

You might hear about traditional Russian wooden doll called Matreshka. It's considered as a 'very Russian thing', even though Matreshka has been used as a souvenir only for the last ... hundred years.
So here is a man selling Matreshkas at the view point at Vorob'evy Hill, which is one of major tourist attracions in Moscow. I believe he never lack for customers.

What people ussualy bring from your place?

The rain is almost over

When the rain is nearly over, there are clear drops about to fall down from edges of wet leaves. A moment of hesitation - and a light splash of water underneath.

Colourful fantasy

Would you like to get such a colourful bouquet? I definetely would. And I actually had. There is something very summer-like in this burst of colours, and I like that a lot.

In this picture you can see all kinds of city transport: metro and cars on the bridge and boats on the Moscow river.

What I like about Moscow summers is that days are unbelievably long and nights are fare. This photo was taken at 9:50 pm last night and, as you can see, the sun is still relatively high. On a quiet evening like yesterday it's a wonderful thing to wander about the city till late.

Relax, take it easy

Moscow summer is almost like a joke - short and cold. So everyone finds his own way to enjoy those rare fine days the weather gifted us with. This man is definetely having a good time by the Moscow river. Why not?

A 100th post

This blog celebrates a tiny anniversary today - a 100th post. This is not much, I agree, but I never thought I would ever reach this point. The dog in the picture has nothing to do with my anniversary save for being shown in the 100th post of Moscow Daily Photo blog.

Moscow Metro: Vorob'evy Gory station

One more photo from Vorob'evy Gory metro station. I believe it's one of the most beautiful in Moscow and definetely the lightest.

The clue day

Ok, many of you were very close yesterday: this is really a bridge across Moscow river. Here is the photo from outside. But the thing is that this is a ... metro station as well!

Vorovievy Gory was open in 1959 as Leninskye Gory, then closed for reconstruction in 1984 and reopen in 2002. It is named after Vorob'evy Hills (used to be Leninkye Hills) located on the right bank of the river next to the bridge. There is also a highway above metro-trays, which is Komsomolsky Prospect.

Puzzle day

Today I propose a riddle: where, do you think, this photo was taken? What kind of building is it?

The answer and more photos will wait for you tomorrow :)

Roses

This could be a post for the last Theme Day but I chose another photo then. So today I have an opportunity to present you another variety of red - roses. Someone would call it a commonplace flower but I like the elegance of its appearance and scent. And there is always something half-spoken about the shape of petals.

I cross the stream....

I have enormous number of great photos to post but my life is just like this rapid stream nowadays, so I couldn't get a chance yet to look through my latest 'catch'. Please, wait a bit more, and today I presend one more photo from Moscow Botanical Garden - the stream in the Japanese garden.
