Waiting for a tram

Every morning I take a tram to reach nearest metro station. As a rule, trams run every few minutes, but sometimes you have to wait. And wait. And wait...

Twilights

We had blizzard last night: heavy snow nearly paralized the city since winter, as always, came utterly unexpected for public utilities. Temperature stays slightly above 0C so every surface is half-melted mess. Trees looks good, though, and thankfully some snow survived the night so I could take this picture in the morning (another one on my extension site).

About the semi-sphere you noticed at yesterday's photo: this is a glass dome of underground mall.

Feeding

When I was in primary school, we were taught to support wild birds that happen to be in town during wintertime. In the class we used to cut empty milk packages, put in some seeds and hung those feeders on the balcony or in the nearest park. Some people, as I found out, still do it - like an elderly lady living in the next door building. She also keeps a piece of lard at her balcony since chicadees are very fond of it (in this picture you can actually see them having lunch). I don't think, though, that lady's neighbours really approve of her hobby but what they can do to stop her?

Let it snow

We had heavy snow tonight. Everything was getting white as I looked out, so I hurried to catch my camera. Well, I happened to be on time: in a couple hours violent wind got up and shook the snow off trees.

P.S. You can see another version on my extension site.

My 500th post

Time definitely flies! Just started my blog, I suddenly found myself at 500th post. Five. Hundred. Posts.
I can't believe it.

Thank you for staying with me all along! I wouldn't make it without your support.

First snow

Well, here it is. It's a bit late this year but it's here: the first snow of this autumn along with snow-storm. Though, the air gets warmer and milder after a snowfall, and it would be rather pleasant weather but for those nasty, wet and cold little things thrown into your face by severe wind.

By the way, today is third Thursday of Novermber which means it's time to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day. It must be a good medicine for autumn mopes, don't you think so? :)

Church of Holy Virgin Theotokos Sign

This is a small church in Romanov lane, one of the old and narrow streets of Moscow center. The chucrh is surronded by numerous buildings so it's hidden from most passers by. Moreover, it was fenced about on account of reconstruction works, so even if you lay aboard you will not get a full view. A bunch of beautiful towers is the only available scene.

The church was built in 1680s and replaced an old wooden cathderal. In 1929 it was closed and turned into storage facilities. In late 1990s it was supposed to be restored as a temple but, as far as I know, previous owners still haven't vacated the building.

Rainy night

Rainy night took place of rainy day, then another rainy day replaced rainy night... November finally looks more like itself: cold rains and rare flakes of snow fall from the sky.
Late autumn is such a sad time of the year! I would make public holidays that season long, so people could have at least one additional source of joy.

What do you do to fight the mopes?

For those who complained on lack of buildings pictures in my blog I prepared this photo. My husband (thanks for his contribution!) found this small house among old little streets of central Moscow. I believe, it used to be a hostel-like building (well, 50-60 years back people were happy to have a room of their own, even though they have to share kitchen and bathroom), but now it hosts some organizations or is rent for offices.

Public art

Another piece of public art found in the same backyard as yesterday's. You wouldn't realize it's a 'fake' man unless you come closer. It looks so natural! And I have to agree, he makes this little backyard look inhabited and very pleasant.

A dog

Of course, it's a piece of public art, not a real dog. But I couldn't deprive you of pleasure of getting acquainted with this cutie! My husband found this ... sculpture, if you will, in the backyard of business buildings in city center.

Blue moon

I wonder why is it called blue moon while it's rather yellow? Nevermind, as long as it makes a good picture :)

By the way, if I don't comment on your blog it doesn't mean I don't look at your photos. I do visit most DP community sites, as well as other blogs, quite regularly so, as a rule, there is no time for dropping a line for you (though, I'm always happy to get yours :)). I beg your pardon for my silence.

On a winter-like sunny day Kremlin looks even more beautiful than in the summer-time. And you actually can see more of Kremlin itself because trees lost their leaves by today.
So here is a view of west wall of the constuction. The roofless tower on the frontground is Kutafya, built in 1516; it's the only 'outside' tower survived in our days. The pike on the background is Trinity pass-tower (which means there is a gate); constructed in late 1490s, it was the main one at the west side. Kutafya and Trinity towers are connected by Trinity bridge; in 1516 it was thrown across Neglinnaya river (now inclosed in underground pipes).

Morning in the city

The morning was beautiful today: chilly but sunny, with clear sky and sleppy streets. I took this photo on my way to the office: looking southward at Mokhovaya St. The domes on the background belongs to famous Christ the Savior Cathedral (its restored version). The building on the right, with statues on the top, is Lenin's Library - the main Russian storage of books and documents.

Poor things! It's so uncomfortable a weather to take a tour around Moscow! I hope they wouldn't stay outside for long, though.

I wonder how grass can still be green while temperature is about 0C but the fact is that lawn IS green in Alexandrovsky Garden!

I have moved to another flat. My new home is a full mess yet, but at least nothing blocks a view from my window.

P.S. I'm experimenting with GIMP but you can find an original colour photo on my extension site.

It's getting colder over here. The temperature is slightly above freezing, and sky is winter-like. Most trees are bare by now, though you can still find green lawns somewhere.

National Unity Day

Today is a public holiday in Russia: The National Unity Day. This is the reason why we had a 'Black Saturday' on Novermber, 1st and then 3 days of rest (Nov,2-4). Frankly saying, this holiday doesn't make any sense to me but, no doubts, I enjoy extended week-end.

The photo presents a part of souvenirs fair at Revolution Square, it's located by the metro station, on the way to Kremlin and Red Square so tourists can't avoid passing through.
On the background you can see 'Moscow' Hotel in the last stage of construction.

Sleeping fontains

Fontains in Alexandrovsky Garden are off for the winter. They look so empty and lonely without water that you can't help taking pity on them. For 7 long months the fontains will be sleeping. What do they dream of?...

Theme Day: Books and Reading

I had to pretend to be a spy this morning so I could take this photo. Reading in a metro car is a typical picture of Moscow rush hour. Soviet people were proud of being 'the most reading nation', and public transportation still provides a lot of opportunities to read on your way to work or back. Well, some individuals are not strong enough stay awake while reading in the morning :)

And here is another view of my morning fellow-travelers.
