Not it's nearly time for domestic tulips in Moscow area (by which I mean flowers neither imported nor grown in greenhouses), and I bring you this photo that I took back in March. Wherever originated, those spring messengers always make one's life brighter.

Staircase
This is a staircase in one of the multi-stored appartment buildings. This house is 5 stores high, and for that reason there is no elevator. The picture is rather typical for 30-40 years old buildings.
P.S. Another version on my extension site.

Moscow metro: Park Cultury
Just another sample of Moscow metro. This time it's Park Culture station, on of the first built. It looks very much like Sokolniki and some other station in that line.

Going out of city
There is always a mistery about railroads. It's like an endless expectation of something exciting to tempt you every time you go by.

Spring hunter
Well, it wasn't only me who went hunting for spring one sunny day. Though, my objects were mostly flowers and his, I guess, mostly flies :)

Past and Present
There is a fancy restaurant in the building of Historical Museum (I believe you can guess what prices are in fine dining at Red Square). The entrance is 'guarded' by a couple of dressed-up men representing guards of XVth-XVIth century. A bit of historical touch, you know.

On guard: taking photo
As you can see, it's not only tourists who get photographed in Red Square but even those who happened to be there in the call of duty.

Easter
Today Russion Orthodox Church celebrates Easter. In Russian tradition there is no chocolates or bunny things, but people colour eggs and bake special kind of cakes - kulich (something mean of sweet bread and muffin). Also, those coloured eggs can be distributed among friends and family.
The photo has nothing to do with Easter, it's just one of the few wooden houses left in Moscow streets.

Fly, fly...
I'm gone to Israel for vacation, and for the next 2 weeks my photos will be posted automatically. I'm not sure if I get access to internet over there but I will answer your questions and comments when I'm back.
So far - enjoy the spring!

Sunset
Doesn't it look a bit African to you? You know, those famous pictures of giraffes and baobab trees silhouettes against the setting sun? It feels something similar somehow.
I don't know what cause such reddish effect, must be smog or dusty air, but the view is magnificent!

Actors by Red Suare
Apart from monkeys and eagles, in the neighbourhood of Red Square you can find people pretending to look like historical characters. "Lenin", "Stalin", "Tsar Nicolai II" and other figures can be seen by Historical Museum offering their "services" for photographing. And quite often I see that services being in demand - like this time.

Tourist attractions
In many public places in Moscow you can meet vendors offering to get photographed with an animal. Most popular ones are monkey and piton, and sometimes eagle.
This monkey-'actor' is a habitant of Red Square surrounding and doesn't lack tourists' attention. Owners dress it in real clothes to make it look baby-like. It looks rather funny but I always feel desperately sorry for this little thing.

Backyard
I already showed you this backyard of business center somewhen in winter. Now, with snow gone and clear sky above, it looks quite different. Those trees are mostly birches, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in full foliage.

Today most Christians celebrate Easter and some contries even provide their people with extended week-end. Well, Russian Orthodox church will have Easter next Sunday, and there is no extra holiday on this occasion in Russia.
But today was a beautiful day in Moscow, warm and sunny. Temperature reached 10C for the first time this year, and I enjoyed watching cloudless sky and busy birds.
The photo represent Kazan Cathederal located in Red Square, next to Historical Museum. First mention of it is dated by 1625. Later the cathederal survived fire and numerous reconstruction, it became one of the most important churches in Moscow (and in Russia) until it was destroyed in 1936. In 1990-1993 the Cathederal (or, rather, exact copy) was rebuilt at its original location.

Side street
This is just a little street in central city. I liked the way sun was shining through that narrow lane, and I found rows of electric lines rather picturesque.

Mokhovaya St.
This April is extremely cold: it was -2C when I left home this morning. Minus two! On 9th of April! Impossible.
It's sunny, of course, but windy and really chilly.

Automobile man
This piece of public art is located by some driving school (also providing car workshop services) in central Moscow. I guess that iron person is supposed to be made of auto parts, and I rather like its friendly-looking appearance.

Slowly, inch by inch, the city gets free of winter remains. Days are grey and rainy, but rain is quite efficient in melting snow so let it be. Meanwhile, I experiment with Gimp trying to make the spring more apparent.

The bright spot for a grey day
This little scarlet car always catch my eye as I stop by the window. With greyish background of dirty snow and bare trees the car seems amazingly bright and joyful - just the right thing to look at when spring is hezitating behind the corner!

Znamenka St.
The spring is late in Moscow this year. It's April already but streets are still full of snow. Anyway, sun was here today and brought us some very bright minutes.
The photo was taken in one of the central streets.

My second anniversary
It's hard to believe but Moscow DP is 2 years old! Never dreamed of making it but suddenly realized that I was already there. Of course, sometimes I was rather irregular about my posting and I appologize for that, but I always tried my best.
Thank you for being with me these years, for your encouraging comments and invaluable support! It was such a great peace of good luck to stumble upon CDP community and to have you all around!

Theme day: Yellow

Another Theme Day is here! And today we post about YELLOW. So here is my contribution: that shop window looked as though it was designed to April Theme Day! It was very nice of them, don't you think so? :)
