This is a wounderful specimen of Soviet piblic art: a couple of workers holding the globe with some peace-making words around.

Armoured car

As I told you yesterdays, there are some shoe-pieces by the Museum of Modern History. One of them (and my favourite, in fact) is this armoured car used in Revolution days of 1917. Just look at it! Isn't it cute?

History museum

This beautiful mansion is located in the very center of the city, in Tverskaya St. During Soviet era there was a Museum of Revolution in this building, and there are still some artefacts can be seen around. Nowadays it is Museum of Modern History, and once in a while it hosts various exhibitions.

Cavaliers

This is another piece of sculpture group I showed you yesterday. This features heros from Fadeev's book about Civil War, and those people wear Red Army uniform.

Here is the view from another point.

This group of monuments is installed in front of Children's Art Center. Those figures represent the Soviet writer Fadeev (on the left) and characters of his most known books (on the right). Fadeev wrote about both Civil War of 1918-1921 and World War II.

Starting for London

>

It didn't seem possible until the last minute but now I finally believe it's true: I'm going for vacation to London. For a week my photos will be posted automatically though I hope to be able to read your comments.

Well, my first ever trip to Camelot is about to start...

White blossom

There is little left of blossom by now but still there can be found some.

Friday, 24 July 2009

I know it's not really polite to photograph people without asking for their permission, especially children, but this little boy looked so amused with the world around! I couldn't help using my camera.

The summer will be unusually hot and sunny. Don't miss that day!

Hot weather didn't last long, and now we face grey sky, rains and temperature hardly above +20C. Well, summers in Moscow have been desperately short these several years.

And the photo was taken in Rose garden in Sokolniki a while back.

Fireguard station

I've already posted a photo of this fireguard tower in Sokolniki but this time it's the one taken in summer daylight.

In the country

I went to visit my family last weekend. The weather was marvelous, and I took a lot of photos of my mother's flower beds.

Artist

I saw this woman sitting on the grass in rose garden and drawing something, and I couldn't miss the shot!

Above the city

I was working quietly this morning when suddenly saw a man nearly flying in the air at my eyes level. Apparently, this was a steeplejack fixing the roof of the neighbour bell-tower but it looked quite impressive.

Fontain

Oh, what a monstrous thunder-storm we had last night! It was all lightning! and rumbling! and water-falling! It was loud and scaring.

Though, the photo is not about nature powers but about fontain at Pushkin's square.

Tuesday, 14 July 2009

To give you some rest from roses I decided to post this photograph of Yauza river taken from metro car. As a rule, this riverside in Sokolniki area is quite free (relatively, of course), and on week-ends, as you can see, it's next to empty.

Rose garden

There is a rosary in Sokolniki park, and today I was so lucky as to find it open. Well, I literally got lost there among beautiful bushes and trees. There was such a luxury of colours! And here is just an example.

Spotted log

After a misery of cold and dull week we suddenly got a sunny week-end. This light-spotted fallen trunk looked very picturesque in the lush green of grass.

One more view from my office window. Today the weather is far from what you see in the photo: clouds are so low that they hide tops of skyscrapers.

Modern architechture

I have no idea what is the purpose of that building, I just liked the antenna-like construction on the top.

Trubetskie's park

This morning I was passing by a park I never even knew about! For what I could see through the railing, I was absolutely charmed with its walks and channels. I guess, this park was a part of Trubestkie's estate in Khamovniki (now the district withihn Moscow city).

From the top

Looking down from 15th floor you may come to conclusion that Moscow is under general construction.

Tonnel of light

These days are terribly cold in Moscow, and the only place where sunshine can be found is our memory. And photos, of course.

Sunday, 5 July 2009

Pushkin's square

This is one of little squares in Moscow downtown. Named after famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin who lived in first half of XIX-th century, the square is a favourite of Moscow people. On the background (to the right) you can see Pushkin's monument which is the most popular meeting spot in the city. And the square itself is a part of Boulevard Ring, it's very green and full of fontains.

Sunset

We are having the most summer-unlike weather: it's +10 C outside, the sky is grey and depressive. I bet some of your winters are warmer!

Enjoy your week-end!

Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin

This beautiful building is located in one of central Moscow streets - Malaya Dmitrovka. Built in 1652, it was the last steepled church in Moscow. It survived Revolution of 1917, though was closed in 1935 and re-open only in 1991. Later it was restored by the troup of the neighbouring theatre.

More peony

Here is more summer flowers for you.

And on the subject of my new office: yes, we have moved in, and most desks are occupied now. Though, I don't think it's a good idea to take photo of the full office for many people would mind. Moreover, it doen't look half as nice as empty one. Views are not so prospective either since some windows have been shuttered.
