"Ecology". Sculptered by A.Burganov.
I have never heard of this sculptor. Means, my fault. He was born in 1935 and is famous for his works in Soviet and modern times. The interesting red brick building, which I 'll show in my next post, is his state museum. "If you plan to go to our museum, do not forget the umbrella, as the exhibits are mostly outdoors", welcoming letter at his personal site warns.
Behind the sculpture you can see secondary school building, recently restored.
The location is Arbat, central and lovely part of the city. Special atmosphere and old buildings charm.

Church of Merciful Saviour
They do it again. I mean churches, which suddenly appear when you do not expect. I was driving back home from my drawing class and saw these remains of the church. Church of Merciful Saviour, part of "Gladness of All Sorrowful" monastery on Novoslobodskaya street.
I googled the building which I saw for the first time (thank you dear blog! I though that I knew my city very well. Now I foresee so many misteries ahead!).
It was constructed by the end of 19th century and was completely distroyed inside during the Soviet era. The building still belongs to state orgaisation which refuses to return it back to the church.
I put two photos of right and left sides of the building, sorry they are not perfect fit, but I quickly study Photoshop...
Moscow Trade Center
Moscow World Trade Center was constructed in the end of 1970ties and that time it was the only place where foreign businessmen could get contacts with Soviet industrial market. Usual Russians were allowed there only on special permission, it was a wonderland where people smoked Malboro and drank Coca-cola :-).
Now it is one of hundred Moscow business centers, with welcoming professional stuff and huge business facilities.

Moscow State University - MGU
The Moscow State University is the most famous and prestigious one among the colleges in Russia. It was founded in 1755 and I will sure make the sunny day photo of the historic building in the centre of Moscow.
Meanwhile this photo shows the building, opened in 1953 for the natural sciences division of the University. The height is 239,5 meters (about 690f.). The territory is about 110 hectares (272 acres) and covers all the needs of the students in their study and leasure. It looks like MGU is a city inside the city with bothanical garden, new library, medical clinic, sports grounds, wide range of cultural possibilities.
Where are people? These grey days they prefer to stay inside, I think :-)

Snipets of the Kremlin
This is my first post here, so I thought I would share one of the pictures I took on my first day out and about in Moscow. I arrived late Wednesday evening, and didn't have any time to explore the city until Sunday! It was a great day though, the sun decided to visit! I spent a few hours enjoying the blue sky and just wandering around the city. This is taken from the opposite side of the Moscow River. I just love the way St. Basil's Cathedral (far right) is peeking through the trees!

The Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Petrovsky Park
The churches in Moscow always have there own plan about walkers. You just walk, expecting nothing and suddenly, behind the corner, voila! it pops up in full glory with golden domes and breathtaking achitecture. How many churches are in Moscow? Hard to say. But beware, they are waiting to amuse and impress you!
This is the church of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Petrovsky park. Constructed in the middle of 19th century; closed, ransacked and turned into warehouse in the middle of 1930-es; returned to the owner in 1991; restored by 1997.
I drove near that street about 50 times, only today I saw this beauty for the first time...

Moscow Style in Architecture
Ulitsa 1905goda - Street named after 1905 Revolution.
This is the streel located in the centre of the city, one of the hundreds radial streets aiming to the centre, to the Kremlin (Moscow map).
This is typical example of Moscow architecture mix: wooden yellow building of the twenties-thirties of 20th century, next to it beige building of the Stalin time and modern glass-and-metal.
Sorry, but these grey backgrounds will follow all the Moscow cityscape photos till February, I'm afraid. That's our winter.
One important thing: I am new here and maybe there is something I do wrong. Please give me your advice. If you have some special interest in Moscow, please ask and I 'll try to post illustrated reply.

Mosfilmovskaya street
Mosfilmovskaya ulitsa. Mosfilm street. Goes along Mosfilm - Moscow Hollywood. The brawn building in the middle is the Swedish Embassy.
Grey is the main color of Moscow winter. The sun almost forgets about us, Moscovites, from October till February. But when the sun rarely retuns, it brings cold weather, moroz - we call it. And I do not like moroz at all! So let's keep winter grey but warm, and I promise to find the way to add color to my photos.
Now I want to say few words about the comments to my first post in this blog.
I did not realise that I have got all that kind and welcoming comments from you all, my dear new friends! You are so encouraging, thank you so much!
I was kindly appointed by Irina (yes, we have the same name!) to be group writer to this nice blog and to contribute to the huge work she was doing for almost three years. We do no know each other, so she is risking in a way, I think. Few days ago I decided to look at "Blog of Note" - Cairo/Ghisa Daily Photo, liked the idea of daily photos very much and was interested: how do things go in Moscow DP blog? So, here I am.
Irina, the founder of the blog, assures all the readers that she is here and keeps watching the blog and reading the comments!

My First Contribution
First snow in Moscow, I caught it from my balcony. I am almost sure that it will thaw completely in few days, but at a moment it is so clean outdoor.
Dear readers! It is my first post in the blog. I am a bit nervous and try to do my best. I would like Moscow to become familier and closer to you.
Dear readers! It is my first post in the blog. I am a bit nervous and try to do my best. I would like Moscow to become familier and closer to you.
So here I am again, after two weeks of absence, presenting another photo of Moscow autumn. Well, I believe things will change now for I have granted permissions to two more bloggers so I hope they will pick up the posting and bring this blog back to life.
I already miss you, though.

Sunset in Kolomenskoe
Here I am, with one of my late September photographs.
I heard it's snowing in Moscow now though from my point of staying it's so hard to believe in snow!
I will try to post more photos shortly since I finally got my home internet connection.
It's was great to get your comments! Thanks :)
