Meeting string

We were waiting, and it came! Finally, spring is here! Those flowers (my dictionary states their name is foalfoot) are first messengers of real warmth. Their yellow heads show up before any grass hatch out, even before their own leaves are on the surface! In Russian this flower is called by what can be translated as 'mother-and-stepmother'. That's because of its leaves: soft and gentle on one side (like mother), they are rough and unpleasant on the other (like step-mother).

Anyway, foalfoots are the first flowers of Moscow spring, and I'm so glad to see them!

The Bike

This bike was parked by the entrance to my appartment building, and I found it rather attractive. So here you are.

Riverside

This is one more view from Moscow House of Music, this time it's Moscow-river.

One more photo from Moscow House of Music - this time I'd like to show you a vestibule. As you can see, it's richly decorated: marble steps and columns, wooden banisters and so on.

Music Hall

I went to the Moscow House of Music for organ concert so I took an opportunity to photograph this building from inside. Here you can see a music hall - the largest one.

Pipe Organ

Novospassky monastry

This is one of the oldest moantries in Moscow - Novospassky, as it looks from Moscow House of Music.

Bypass Channel

This is a business center on the bank of so called Bypass Channel which goes in parallel with Moscow-river from central to southern part of the city. It's rather narrow but presents a beautiful view with its arched bridges.

Moscow House of Music

This is a center of Perfomance Arts - a so called Moscow International House of Music. Built in 2002 on the riverside, it soon became one of the main cultural centers in Moscow. There are 3 music halls, a gallery, open-air amphitheater, recording studio, music store, restaurants and much more. Acoustics of music halls is perfect, and it's always a great pleasure to come for a concert over here.

Sadovoe Koltso (Garden Ring)

It's been many years since last tree was removed from Garden Ring (there used to be friut gardens, really), and nowadays it is but one of the main transport arteria of the city - the inner circle road. This photo presents a little bit of its southern fragment.

Arbat St.

Arbat is one of the oldest (and best known) Moscow streets. It began in XVth century as a kind of suburb not far from Kremlin, and there is an opinion that its name has Arabian roots meaning 'outside the town'. Though, there is another version stating that the word 'Arbat' comes from 'arba' (which in Turkic means cart) because there lived craftmen who made vehicles.

Anyway, nowadays Arbat is fully pedestrian; you can find here numerous street musicians, artists, speakers and all other kinds of public people. It's also very popular with tourists therefore dozens of dubious vendors would offer you every souvenir you dare buy.

Arbat has its charm, especially in the night when crowd leaves it for home and street lamps lead a way of occasional walker...

Theatre

I went to a theatre last night, and it was beautiful. The theatre is located in the famous Arbat street and named after its first curator, Yevgeniy Vakhtangov, who organized a group of student artists back in 1913. Since then it developed into one of the best Russian academical theatres, and I'm glad I can share with you a piece of its atmosphere.

Women's Day

Too bad I couldn't post this photograph sooner! The blogspot service seemed to experience troubles today (and it never happened before in my memory) so this story is kind of late..

Anyway, today was a public holiday in Russia - so called International Women's Day. It's a fiest of spring and worship for Woman. This is the day when every female get a present and nearly everyone get flowers. And there is a special mood in the air on 8th of March.

I love this holiday.

Off the Train

The kind of veil in this picture is not fog but ia a severe snow-storm. We could hardly see anything 100 meters away!
Though, the blizzard was over in 10 minutes time and sun is shining now.

Morning street

This street doesn'e lead to metro station and time is rather late for working morning (about 9:30 AM), so you can hardly meet many people on your way to the train station. Still, there are some.

Another example of street art, this time it's a real graffity. Unfortunately, there are too few such cute pieces of work as this one and even this was spoiled.

Theme Day: Graffity/Street Art

Today's theme is Graffity and Street Art. The photo I present is a kind of 'legal' street art: officials, tied of struggle with ugly garages, got them painted with colourful pictures. I guess it's a nice thing and it makes city brighter.
