Lenin in Museon Park.
The growth of Moscow Daily Photo subscribers at Facebook after 8 months of blog's silence intrigued and surprised me. So I decided to post a complement to our new subscribers.
And, maybe, return to blogging from time to time.
The photo is made today in Museon museum-park. Grandpa Lenin lives there. "USSR is the stronghold of peace" is written behind him.

Da Vinci in Moscow
Few days ago I went to the exhibition "Da Vinci Genius". The name of the show says it all.
The genius whose ideas were understood and realized 300 years after his death. The person of widest interests. And Mona Lisa.

Yard of Moscow Modern Art Museum
The yard of Moscow Modern Art Museum is decorated by Z.Tsereteli, Georgian painter and sculptor's, iron people. A piece of Eastern market, where they sell, buy and exchange news is presented by almost two dozens of individual figures.
They are live, special, interesting, made with love and, believe me, they very well represent Georgian character.
Mr. Tzereteli worked in Moscow during the previous city major, they were close friends, and the city was very often (sometimes too much) decorated with works of this artist..
Now, when major changed, they discuss the possibility to remove all Tsereteli's works from the remarkable places in the city, he gets huge amount of negative critique. I hope no art work would be destroyed as we already had the destruction precedent in revolutionary 1917 and it taught us strong lesson.
I feel sorry for Mr. Tsereteli. He is very good artists and talented sculptor. His story has moral for any artist - try to stay independent, friends with authorities can be very self-destroying.

Night in Museum
Tonight 160 Moscow museums work till midnight. It is the 5th "Night in museums" event and it is very popular. Museums, which if not for the tourists are almost empty during the year, suddenly happen to be the greatest place of interest for the Muscovites. Some of the museums prepare special expositions, some just stay open till 24-00.
I think it is great idea. If the state financing is very weak why not to use any possibility which helps to educate and to rise museum funds?
I did this photo today at Novaya (New) Square. I planned to make photos in the city, but the weather was too wet for photo-session). The pink buildings are the museum of Moscow. Strange but recognizable design? You are right, it was the church before revolution. Soon museum will leave this building and Orthodox church gets back its treasure.
The entrance is decorated with balloons to mark and celebrate the 14th May as "Night in Museum".

Window Frames
The differences in types of old Russian izba's (wooden houses) window frames decoration depending on the location/region.
The photo was made in Dom na Brestskoy (here is the link to earlier post about the model of the center of the city in this building).
I post one more photo from the exhibition site, looks very typical to me. The photos of the Moscow architects are exposed on the walls, the permanent map of the city is partly covered by exposition walls, the old lady with heater is waiting for the visitors.
I let you know, that I saved first photo in bigger then usual size. So you can click on photo to see the details.

MMOMA yard (Moscow Modern Art museum)
The yard of the Museum of modern art looks very welcoming.
The museum presents mostly Russian early 20th century avant-garde art and non-conformist painters of 1960-1980 Soviet Russia.
The site of the museum (link here) has English version, so you can dig in for the details if interested).
I also enclose the link to the page of the main treasures of the museum. Here.
Current exhibitions. Here.
Check the location before you go, as the museum has buildings in three different locations in the city.
And map for visitors of this branch is here. Link.
Well, I have never been inside. I was quickly passing by, made photo and kept walking. But I want to be back, slowly look at all the metal people in the yard.
Today I received the comment to my November post about the art exhibition of May Miturich (here). Jeffrey explained me the details about the biography of the painter, Miturich's relatives and the Russian history, providing the links for further research.
I was so pleased. You are interested. You read our blog. You help us to know the city better.
Thank you all so much for your comments.

More from Mayakovsky Museum

Pages from Mayakovsky's diaries |
I have more photos from Mayakovsky museum (link to virtual tour) for today's post. I hope he would be happy to see these decorations.
I just want to remind that the museum's style resembles the futuristic ideas which were so popular in the beginning of Soviet Russia and which Mayakovsky popularized in his art.

This lady works in the museum and glad to provide the explanations |
I am back from my trip. Some details are in my other blog, if you are interested.

Mayakovsky Museum
Entrance to Mayakovsky's museum gives the impression of what to wait for inside. The futuristic decorations are the wonderland for the professional photographer.
Here is the link to virtual tour at the museum's website. Follow the spiral path, the museum is located on 4 floors.
It was open in 1974 in the apartment house where Mayakovsky was living since 1919 till his death in 1930. The exposition started from the collection of the earlier museum in other place. At a moment the total number of exhibits exceeds 50 000 pieces.
I will post more photos later, the museum is worth seeing.
My friend told me a story. Once she was at the exhibition of modern art and read the guest book, where found the following: "I know how the headache feels, but now I know how it looks like".
