Hermitage Garden

This is the last photo from Hermitage Garden series. Taken a month ago, it's great to dwell on beautiful memories.

Swings

I took this photo this morning: it was early hour, grey and chilly, and the playground was empty. I loved a cover of colourful leaves, and those swings looked like a phantom of long passed summer.

Sunday, 28 October 2007

It's been chilly but sunny weekend. I didn't have a chance to enjoy the weather, though, for I was busy with moving to my new home. Hopefully, I will avoid commute saga this winter.

Squirrel

These little things live in Hermitage Garden, they have a good variety of housing and rich food supply from visitors.

I went to the ball tonight. Yes, it was the real one with beautiful dresses and music. It was hold in the old mansion in central part of the city, and too bad I had to leave before actual dancing began! But I loved the party anyway.

And the photo is one of earlier days, taken in Hermitage Garden.

Another photo of earlier days, taken in Kolomenskoye.

Cafe at Hermitage Garden

This photo was taken a while ago, when days were warm and sunny. Well, weather is not that cold lately but the sky is grey and few drops of rain find their way to the ground now and then. So all I can do is to remember a nice walk to Hermitage Garden where people could enjoy Moscow autumn sitting outside.

It's Friday!

It's been a long week, way too long! And I'm happy to ahve two leisure days ahead. Many people will probably go to bars and clubs tonight, and this 'Pub' will be full. I'm not a big drinker and don't go to bars, but I like this little piece of Britain in very Russian part of Moscow.

Have a nice weekend!

Winter got frightened and stepped back for a little while, so we enjoy warm (relatively) weather again.

In the mean time, I was tagged - twice! By Viola and by CaBaCuRl. No way to escape now but I will slightly modife rules. So here is the origin:
1. Link to your tagger and list the rules.
2. List 8 random facts about yourself.
3. Tag 8 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving them a comment on their blogs.

These are my facts:
1. I moved to Moscow 12 years ago
2. For the last 6 years I visited 6 countries and numerous cities
3. I'm far from being a sport fan
4. My dimploma states I'm an aircraft tests engineer

I've got to tell you one thing: I don't remember such cold October since .... since I don't know when! I want to be a bear to sleep all winter through.

Winter is here!

Well, I'm afraid the winter has come. Today we had heavy snowing all day long. It's cold and nasty outside - what a good reason to stay home and watch your favourite movies! By the way, what films do you like the most? I should like to see a BBC version of 'Pride and Prejudice', even though it's extremely long one.

Tverskaya

While weather forecast sounds rather depressive (three following days are expected to be miracluosly alike: +3C and permanent rain), I'll show picture of earlier days, sunny and warm. This one was taken in the city center, in some block adjoining Tverskaya street.

More photos can be found on my Extension site. And don't forget to check out new Cyprus pictures.

Up the river

Today I took a boat trip up the Moscow-river. I admit that weather was far from appropriate for such a trip: heavy grey sky, temperature hardly above +4C, we even had snow today! But the trip was nice, and we had a lot of hot tea and coffee onboard. We also had a 4 hours long stop at the picturesque bank of the river where I had a great opportunity to walk in autumn woods.

As for my wish I made in Kolomenskoe, I'm afraid I have to wait quite long before it come true.

Thursday, 11 October 2007

Abraham was surprised there was no crowd to make wishes at the magic place, but that was a tricky shot - I had to wait for half an hour before I could get a picture of the rock with no people around. And it would be absolutely impossible to shot the second, larger one - the Men's - for it's always so crowded you can't see the rock itself!
I made my wish on the small one, though didn't tie a ribbon. Let's see if (when) my wish come true.

Wonder rock

Yesterday I told you about ancient rocks that made wonders. Well, here is one of them. It's far from being the biggest one but it's believed to be most useful for female health(another, bigger rock is a 'Men's one'). It makes hopes come true as well. So women of all ages come to this rock, sit on it thinking of some special wish or tie a ribbon on the nearest tree (you can see it in the right part of the picture). After you made such a ceremony your wish is supposed to get materialized. Simple enough, isn't it?

P.S. And a closer view on my extension site.

Kolomenskoe

Back to Kolomenskoe park, I'd like to show you the celebrated gully within it. There are mysterious stories about people who disappeared while trying to cross the gully, some of them showed up 30 years later as young as though they didn't notice long decades of absence. There are ancient rocks on the banks believed to work wonders, and a fast stream on the floor.
It's a beautiful place, especially in autumntime.

P.S. More photos on my extension site.

Gum

It's been raining for three days by now, and I have nothing better to do than watching pictures of sunny days. Like this one, taken a couple weeks back.

How was your weekend?

Leaves in grass

While it's cold and rain outside, I'll show you the picture I took last Sunday in Hermitage Garden. As the sun came down, shadows got longer and deeper.

Clover

The last of wild flowers this year. A delicate thing to value, a beautiful one to watch.

Indian summer is over

We are back to rains and cold with no hope for warm sunny days.

This blog is half a year old

Yesterday this blog selebrated its being 6 months old. Sometimes I look through my early posts and can't believe that was the city as I present today!
This photograph was taken in one of old blocks, it shows the yard framed by multistored apartment buildings. As you can see, the playground was empty at the moment but there are elderly ladies sitting on the bench: they met to have some talk and gossips, and to walk a dog in the mean time.

Theme day: Cemetery / Tombstone

Today is the Theme Day: considering coming Helloween bloggers are supposed to post a photo of cemetery or tombstone. And I bet you were puzzled with the picture I presented! Well, apart from Lenin's Mausoleum there is one more thing: the Kremlin Wall itself. It was a great honour to be buried by this wall (well, I'm not sure if it's exactly the one in the picture) so many Soviet rulers lay bones there. I guess that would be a plot for the horror movie!
