Day of Russia

Yesterday was the Day of Russia, a holiday to celebrate Russia's becoming an independent nation, rather than the USSR. Depending on who you ask, in their opinion that's either a good thing or a bad thing. Either way, it's a holiday, and it means that the whole country has a three day weekend, so if nothing else, that makes everyone happy! I got lucky and was able to catch the fireworks from this excellent place in front of Red Square - and I do have to admit that it was pretty cool to watch fireworks with St. Basil's Cathedral, the History Museum, and part of the Kremlin wall as a background!
