Photos from my trip to Tretiakov's art gallery. Thank you, Mr. Tretiakov for this treasure house!
Part of Vasnetsov's preparatory sketches. The original can be admired in upper part of Vladimirsky church in Kiev, Ukraine.
I looked into these faces, one by one. Suddenly I turned around and realized that all this people were looking back at me (and you!), from the 18th century.

Wow! Three fine photos showing us a place we should visit if we ever get to Russia.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful museum this is . I'd love to visit it one day.
ReplyDeleteSo nice how the portraits are arranged. As you said, you can sort of be alone with each one.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the thoughtful reflection about being in the portrait gallery, and the experience of exchanging gazes with those portrayed. Very insightful!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you also for the photo of the mural by Vasnetsov. I'm going to be researching more of his amazing paintings.
